ASIX Announces apex for California

Bellevue, WA - ASIX, Inc., a Pacific Northwest-based software vendor and information technology consulting firm, is pleased to announce the forthcoming release of the apex™ property tax system developed specifically to address the requirements of California counties. It joins Ascend™ as part of the ASIX family of applications currently serving county assessors and treasurer/tax collectors in six states. Designed to provide integrated support for California Assessors, Auditors, and Treasurer/Tax Collectors, apex™ will include facilities for annual and supplemental tax billing, revenue collection and apportionment, and management of tax delinquencies.

"Although we have been highly successful implementing our multi-state client-server tax product, Ascend™, in jurisdictions ranging in size from 15,000 to over 600,000 property accounts, it is clear that the business practices of California counties call for new technology and changes in the underlying software model in several critical areas," said Kurt Wagner, President and CEO of ASIX, Inc. "Although Ascend's™ current design satisfies much of California's requirements, several critical requirements, such as the processing of supplemental property taxes, called for new software designed specifically to meet the needs of the state's counties. It is a market we cannot afford to ignore, " said Wagner. "The California marketplace can support a tailored software product devoted to satisfying its unique requirements that builds upon Ascend's™ proven application model."

Introduced in 1996, Ascend™ broke ground as the first true multi-state client-server tax product and has managed billions of dollars in tax revenue since its introduction. In apex™, ASIX continues the tradition of leading-edge technology based on Java2 standards. "As a Java-based product, apex™ provides the benefits of a feature-rich user interface, 'thin-client' design, web-based access, software portability, and strict adherence to emerging industry standards," said Mark Chandler, ASIX Chief Technology Officer. "Traditional client-server architectures simply cannot scale to meet the performance requirements of the largest California jurisdictions. The n-tier distributed processing architecture in apex™ is designed to satisfy the requirements of large and small counties alike, in a variety of hardware and database environments."

ASIX has invested nearly three years in product research and development of apex™ and expects to begin demonstrating product features to prospective California customers in the third quarter of 2001. ASIX is a member in good standing of the California Association of County Treasurers and Tax Collectors (CACTTC), and the California Assessors Association (CAA).
